The Carey Inn (circa 1883) is located in the heart of the world-famous Chautauqua Institution's historic district.
Our central location, only a block from the Amphitheater, allows our guests to enjoy concerts from our porch.
The Carey has maintained its original 1800s Lobby and Wicker room for guest's enjoyment.
We offer a catered Meet and Greet every Sunday for guests to meet the staff and make friends with other guests.
All Carey rooms are individually decorated and combine the charm of a Victorian Inn, with the modern amenities we enjoy today.

About Us
Become a part of Chautauqua's rich history...
The Carey traces its history to the early 1880's when the first portion of the Inn was erected and named in honor of the Victorian poets Alice and Phoebe Carey. Over the years the Carey grew with the last section completed in 1895.
The Carey Inn has hosted Chautauquans for more than 140 years. Perhaps the most famous was George Gershwin, who completed his ever popular Concerto in F Major while staying at the Carey. Two rooms that he occupied are still available to guests today.
